"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." -Proverbs 29:18

On April 7th-11th, Calkins Baptist church will be having their annual Missions Conference. Various missionaries that are supported by the church and others that are visiting Calkins for the first time plan to be present at this conference.

The keynote speaker scheduled is Missionary Bill Fortner who is the director of Frontline Fellowship. This mission agency was started during the Cold War and came to focus on helping Christians in Romania. Since the overthrow of some of Communism, religious freedom has been established in the country and the mission leaders — in conjunction with Romanian pastors — have established a Bible institute. The folks at Calkins have supported this institute for about 10 years.

Melvin Purvis, missionary to the Hispanics in Alabama, is also slated to attend. Formerly a missionary in Chile, Melvin moved back to the U.S. a few years ago and is trying to reach recent immigrants to the U.S. from Spanish-speaking countries.

Pastor John Gibson also plans on attending during the conference. He and his wife Joy are starting a church in New York City. The major inner cities have often been forgotten in Christian outreach.

Craig Comstock, missionary appointee to New Zealand is also scheduled to attend. He will share his burden for the lost in this English-speaking country.

There will also be special missionary displays and presentations given throughout the conference.

In a time when missions are often forgotten, Christians must be on their knees to pray for those serving Christ on the frontlines. Believers will be challenged to pray, support, and encourage missions throughout the country and the world. The mission field is not only across the ocean; it is right here in our backyards in the Northeastern PA area.

Let’s get busy spreading the gospel in this area, praying for our area pastors and missionaries across the world, and planning to come out to this special conference focused on missions! Come be blessed and be a blessing during this life-changing and inspiring week!
